les grenouilles

After the production of a limestone fountain basin and a Verde Marble base, amongst other smaller pieces, the owner of Thornton Gardens commissioned me to carve two copies of one of his existing frog sculptures.  The original frog was of white marble and painted. The new ones were to be of Verde Marble from Vermont.

The Vermont Verde Antique turned out to be a very difficult marble due to its hardness and splintery composition.  Not the best sculptural material, the frogs required an extra amount of TLC and turned out rather handsome.
